Judge Rules in PETA’s Favor: University of Kentucky Must Release Animal Records

March 2, 2017

Nearly two years ago, the Kentucky attorney general ruled against the University of Kentucky, confirming that the school violated a state open-records law by refusing to release records related to the use of animals in classroom experiments that PETA had requested. The university fought back and appealed the attorney general’s decision, but a judge has rejected the appeal and once again ordered the university to release the records to PETA. UK must now provide us with instructor and course names as well as protocols describing classroom experiments on animals. PETA will use them to determine whether the school is using animals when superior and humane non-animal teaching methods are available and, if so, will offer to donate cruelty-free replacements.
