Reward Tops $10,000 in Cat Abuse Case
PETA Joins Search for Culprit(s) Who Allegedly Dunked Cat in Diesel Oil

On February 11, a cat was found covered with diesel oil near Montana Avenue and 13th Street. Veterinarians found oil in his lungs and deep cuts on his neck consistent with a noose. He also suffered from a low temperature, abnormal breathing, and seizures, and he had to be euthanized to relieve his suffering.
Police are investigating but have yet to make any arrests in this case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for the crime.
PETA’s contribution—combined with the $5,750 raised by local residents and business owners—brings the total reward to $10,750. PETA has also created free downloadable posters (available here) for members of the community to post on bulletin boards and in windows of businesses in the area.
“This cat suffered hideously as he was hanged, dunked in diesel oil, and left for dead,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA joins the Coeur d’Alene community in calling for anyone with information about this horrific case to come forward so that whoever tortured this cat can be held accountable.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—notes that according to leading mental-health professionals and law-enforcement agencies, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to the community at large.
PETA urges families to keep their animal companions safely indoors and never leave them unattended or allow them to roam outdoors, where they may be stolen, attacked by other animals, or abused by cruel people.
