Michigan High School Cancels Donkey Basketball Game

October 2003

Students at Hamilton High School in Michigan contacted PETA when they learned that a donkey basketball game was scheduled at their school. We immediately contacted the school’s principal and the school district’s superintendent to point out that making public spectacles of animals teaches the wrong message to young adults and that these events can cause harm to the donkeys. We also provided information about serious injuries to human participants that have occurred in these games.

A student called to report that the school had announced the cancellation of the game because of concerns about animal welfare and human safety.
