Community Cancels Cruel ”Donkey Basketball” Game

When PETA learned that Delaware Academy High School in Delhi, New York, planned to host a cruel “donkey basketball” game with students and faculty from SUNY Delhi University as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society (ACS), we immediately contacted both schools and the ACS urging them to cancel the game. In donkey basketball games, the animals are usually forced to participate by being pulled, pushed, or yelled at and are sometimes kicked, hit, or scared into moving. The average donkey can only hold 100 pounds, yet most riders in donkey basketball games weigh far more than that. After reviewing the information and speaking with PETA, all parties agreed to cancel the game.
