Sur la Table Cancels Foie Gras Seminar and Vows Not to Plan More

January 2002

After learning about a scheduled foie gras seminar to be held at kitchenware chain Sur la Table, in Manhasset, New York, PETA immediately wrote to the manager and sent a video depicting the cruelty of foie gras production. PETA also issued an action alert for the Web and sent an alert to local activists. The store manager eventually called PETA to let us know that she had decided to cancel the seminar because of the cruelty of foie gras production. The store called all the people who had signed up for the seminar (at $75 each) to let them know, including Michael Ginor of Hudson Valley Foie Gras, who was to host the event. Store officials said they would not reschedule any such event in the future.
