Organic Dairy Farm Owners Criminally Charged

February 2012

We were alerted to the plight of hundreds of starving (and several downed) cattle at an organic dairy farm in Georgia. The operators had gone bankrupt and couldn’t afford enough feed for the herd. We got local officials to expedite a search warrant and veterinary inspections, arrest the owners, and improve the quality of food and care provided for the animals. The farm is being closely monitored, and criminal charges are pending. As of December 2012, the complainant officially became the guardian to the surviving 88 cows. She has committed to providing them with a forever home and will not use them for milk or send them to slaughter.
