As the California Coastal Commission prepares to vote on SeaWorld’s proposed Blue World Project on Thursday, hundreds of PETA supporters will gather to urge the commission to vote down the company’s latest effort to rebrand its widely opposed marine-mammal exhibits. During the meeting, PETA will present arguments and hundreds will show their support or speak during the public comment section to point out that SeaWorld has admitted that its proposal will allow the abusement park to display even more orcas in concrete tanks of chemically treated water and fuel the unregulated growth of its orca-breeding program.

Where:           Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach

When:             Thursday, October 8, 8 a.m.

“SeaWorld’s tanks, regardless of size, deny these highly intelligent animals the social bonds, open space, freedom, and stimulation that they would have in their natural ocean homes,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on the California Coastal Commission to vote down SeaWorld’s Blue World Project, because what these orcas need is to be released into a seaside sanctuary, not a rebranded prison.”

More than 120,000 supporters of PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—have written to the California Coastal Commission in opposition to SeaWorld’s plan.
