PETA Statement on Botswana’s Trophy Hunting Ban

For Immediate Release:
August 4, 2015

Please see the following statement from PETA Foundation Deputy Director Brittany Peet regarding Botswana’s recent decision to ban sport hunting:

Botswana’s ban on trophy hunting gives animals in its country a leg up and will prevent the cruel killing of others like Cecil, who was shot with a steel arrow and left to suffer for 40 hours before being tracked, shot with a gun, skinned, and decapitated. All wild animals are loved by their mates and offspring, but to hunters, they’re just targets to shoot and hang on the wall. PETA is calling on other countries to follow Botswana’s kind example by issuing a full ban on trophy hunting—and relegate this coward’s pastime to the history books.
