After an Oregon pig farmer was convicted of killing and dismembering two workers and feeding their bodies to the pigs she was raising to slaughter, PETA is negotiating with Medford-area outdoor advertisers to display a billboard with the message that the meat on people’s plates was once a living, feeling animal, and encouraging everyone to extend compassion to all living beings.

PETA "Go Vegan!" Billboard - Oregon Pig Farm Murders

“We’re all horrified by the thought of killing and of serving someone up as dinner, so maybe we can open our hearts to the fact that this happens every time we choose to eat meat,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. “PETA’s billboard reminds us that we can help stop the gruesome slaughter of unwilling victims simply by choosing vegan meals, and we have fabulous recipes on our website for people to try.”

PETA regularly documents abuse on meat and dairy farms. Piglets have their tails and testicles cut off without painkillers, chickens and turkeys have their throats cut while they’re still conscious, fish are cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are taken away from their mothers within hours of birth.

We are hopeful that our billboard will encourage more people to go vegan and spare more than 100 animals every year from daily suffering and a terrifying death.
