Led by a robed and bearded “Moses” and waving signs that proclaim, “SeaWorld: Let God’s Orcas Go,” members of Jesus People for Animals—PETA’s Christian outreach division—and the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida will gather outside SeaWorld on Saturday, when the park will host Praise Wave, a Christian music festival.

Where:           SeaWorld, 7007 SeaWorld Dr. (off Central Florida Parkway), Orlando

When:             Saturday, February 14, 12 p.m.

“SeaWorld separates young orcas from their mothers and sentences them to a lifetime of performing circus-style tricks for food—acts that most Christians would agree defy the Bible’s message of mercy and kindness,” says PETA Director of Christian Outreach and Engagement Sarah Withrow King. “PETA is here to remind everyone at Praise Wave that God created orcas for the ocean, not for SeaWorld’s tiny concrete tanks.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—has called on Praise Wave performers Lecrae, Colton Dixon, and Steven Curtis Chapman to follow the lead of Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, and other artists who canceled planned appearances at SeaWorld after learning that orcas there suffer physically and psychologically from the stress and deprivation of captivity. At least 25 orcas have died in U.S. SeaWorld facilities since 1986—and not one died of old age.
