India Ends All Tests on Animals for Cosmetics

After an extensive PETA India campaign—which included appeals from members of Parliament and multinational retailers such as LUSH and The Body Shop as well as extensive discussions with PETA India’s scientists—the drug controller general of India announced that tests on animals for cosmetics and their ingredients will not be permitted in India. This decision followed similar bans on cosmetics tests on animals and the sale of animal-tested cosmetics in the European Union and Israel.
