Israel Becomes the First Country to Ban the Sale of Fur

In a historic victory for animals, Israel became the first country ever to ban the sale of fur. The ban, which goes into effect December 2021, follows years of persistent campaigning by local activists, PETA, and PETA Honorary Director Pamela Anderson—who personally lobbied government officials in Tel Aviv and appealed to then–Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to support a ban on fur.

This ban will prevent countless animals from being violently killed for their fur, and PETA thanks everyone who spoke out to help make this monumental victory possible. We look to other countries to follow Israel’s lead.
