Norfolk, Va. Thanks to peta2, the world’s largest youth animal rights organization, music lovers recently had the opportunity to vote for their favorite bands in peta2’s first-ever "Libby" Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") for animal-friendly people and things. The following are the 2006 music award winners:

· Best New Fur Foe: Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor - After watching PETA’s video footage of an undercover investigation of the fur trade in Chinawhere millions of cats and dogs are killed for fur every yeariconic NIN frontman Trent Reznor was so moved that he agreed to narrate it.

· Best Vegetarian Band: AFI - Every member of AFI is either vegetarian or veganincluding outspoken vegan frontman Davey Havokand all are big animal rights supporters, making them a huge hit with peta2’s roughly 200,000 Street Team members.

· Best Animal Rights Song of 2006: ‘Ready to Fall’ by Rise Against - According to guitarist Chris Chase, the haunting video for "Ready to Fall"which shows actual scenes of animal suffering—"shows everyone what goes on in the world and what people are doing to this planet and to animals."

· Best Newcomer to peta2: hellogoodbye - Singer Forrest Klein starred in a pro-vegan peta2 ad this year, plus the band sponsored a big giveaway at peta2.com.

· Most Animal-Friendly Record Label: Trustkill - Trustkill encourages its fans to "Get Active!" by including peta2 in its online list of worthy causes. Trustkill bands like First Blood and Most Precious Blood were among peta2’s earliest supporters.

Top runners-up include Silverstein (Best Vegetarian Band), Motion City Soundtrack (Best Newcomer to peta2), "You’re Wrong" by NOFX (Best Song), and Victory Records (Best Record Label).

"When it comes to fighting animal abuse, today’s hottest bands and peta2 are marching to the beat of the same drummer," says peta2 Youth Marketing Manager Angela Modzelewski. "We thank these musical giants for using their powerful voices to speak up for animals and for promoting the respect that animals deserve."
