Accidentally Vegan Food List

Vegan Snacks

Grocery stores carry an array of great-tasting vegan options, including some items that you might not know are vegan. “Accidentally vegan” foods are those that were not created intentionally to be marketed to vegan* eaters.

Please note that this list is just for U.S.-based products, as ingredients can vary by region. Companies frequently change their formulations, so read labels prior to purchasing. We are constantly updating this list, so if you know of a vegan product that isn’t currently listed or if you find a product here that isn’t vegan, please contact PETA.

Thank you, and happy munching!

Breakfast (Dry)
Baked Goods
Refrigerated and Frozen Foods

*Items listed may contain trace amounts of animal-derived ingredients. While PETA supports a strict adherence to veganism, we put the task of vigorously reducing animal suffering ahead of personal purity. Boycotting products that are 99.9 percent vegan sends the message to manufacturers that there is no market for this food, which ends up hurting more animals. Nice. This list is fantastic for guys like me – ethical junk food vegetarians who are addicted to mainstream fare but feel compelled to do the right thing. There were so many things on this list I would not have expected: Pistachio pudding, Cap’n Crunch, Doritos (I wouldn’t have given a second glance to a “chili flavored” product normally, because I would have assumed there was some meat by-product in it), Jujubees (would have thought there was gelatin in those), Triscuits, Oreos, Lays, potstickers, and on and on…I can’t believe all the tasty stuff on this list. Things like this make it much easier to be good.

It’s a good thing to have the option for vegans to find what they’re looking for in the local grocery store

I used to LOVE my steak, but then we started going more vegetarian because of how horriblely we found out the animals are treated and now about a year later the mentioning of meat usually makes me want to barf. Sometimes I do crave some meat though and I go out and get the organic meat from a local butcher that treated the animals nicely. Its hard to become vegan/vegetarian but its worth it! You’ll find you have sooo much more energy!

  • Superman says:

YOUR milk is good enough for YOUR baby. Cows milk and all other animals milk is good enough for THEIR babies. You said it best “We produce milk for our children same as animals” Key words: For our children. Cows aren’t producing milk for humans to drink.

Also, killakalli, you can bake just fine without milk and eggs. My vegan cakes and cupcakes are delicious. You just need to find recipes from established bakers. 🙂 Chloe Coscarelli is a good vegan chef. Going vegan or vegetarian is hard at first, but it’s worth it on your conscience. Maybe you could start gradually egding towards veganism, I find that helps a lot. The goal isn’t to torture yourself, it’s to slowly be a better person and the type of person this world needs! So I say try to manage what is best for both you AND the world.

  • Meg says:

Queen, people are against it because of the extremely cruel practices involved in dairy farming. Look them up if you feel so inclined. I fully intend on breastfeeding my children. 🙂

Are all Monster Energy Drinks Vegan or just the original?

  • sahwn says:

the reason that milk and eggs is wrong is because they breed cows and chicken for just that purpose in horrible conditions so when you eat or drink them you allow that to happen

  • Rainbow says:

@ Bitterauldqueen, just google ‘bobby calves’. Also, Cow milk for cow babies – human milk for human babies.

  • bitterauldqueen says:

I don’t understand why vegans object to milk and eggs. I can understand kinda about eggs even though I disagree but Milk? We produce milk for our children same as animals. If milk is good enough for my babies it is good enough for me.

  • Angel says:

You can make a pie by replacing eggs with tofu and dairy milk with almond/soy/rice/coconut milk. Just look online for vegan recipes.

I became vegan cold turkey a month ago and I have had visions of eating cake again because I am a baker and I manage a bakery… I make cakes pies and danish its my passion to bake but I do not see myself ever going Back to eating animal protein. Its not hard its just a life decision either you want it or u don’t, your for it or your not. Don’t fake the funk if u like meat eat it, if u like dairy drink it . I cant do it anymore . God has me here for a reason and I’m not sure what it is yet but its ok because I trust in him! God bless you all
