Meet Chance and Scout, Two Dogs Sold for Experimentation

Written by PETA | September 3, 2010

UPDATE: The University of Utah has announced that it no longer will purchase animals from North Utah Valley Animal Shelter or any other shelter for experiments!

Remember the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter (NUVAS)? You know, the only animal shelter in Utah that still betrays dogs and cats by selling them to the University of Utah for invasive, painful, and deadly experiments? PETA recently obtained photos of nearly 50 dogs whom NUVAS had sold for experiments, and here are two of them:

dog Chance

dog Scout

These sweet dogs, who were probably once someone’s companions, may have ended up like other dogs who were recently purchased from NUVAS: killed and dissected after having holes cut into their necks and chests and pacemakers implanted in their hearts in order to induce an irregular heartbeat.

How many more animals like Chance and Scout will NUVAS betray? Perhaps none—if we all share these dogs’ photos online and call for an end to NUVAS’ shameful practice of selling animals for experiments—and get our Facebook friends and Twitter tweeps to do the same.

What do we have to do to stop this horrific behaviour? How can we prevent all of these innocent animals from being subjected to this horrendous torture? We need to find some way of stopping this!!

  • Heather says:

I’m absolutely sick to my stomach about this….

  • Ady says:

Nobody wants to suffer pain and die. So why should a poor defenceless animal be tortured? They also feel pain.

  • DEBBIE gosselin says:

this is so totally disgustinghow do these people sleep at nightwhy don’t they use these morons that do this..

  • rissy says:

  • Jasmine Chen says:

what is the matter with people? ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T HURT THEM! How would the people in the North Utah Valley Shelter like it if they had horrible experiments done on them????????? No I didn’t think so. Think about the animals THEY FEEL PAIN!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4mula1 says:

ah dude toby there peta the f1 f1.com of the animal rights movement.

  • Toby says:

Dogs are conscious like two or three year old children are… some people don’t care about torturing kids for science but everyone should consciousness should be respected. Off topic is it “peatah” or “petah”? Also with an American accent ‘the PETA files’ sounds like “the pedophiles”… just saying that might be a public relations sort of issue.

  • Marg Durrance says:

I find it hard to believe that a shelter would do this. This is not a true “shelter” at all. Poor dogs.

  • Joan says:

I can’t imagine how someone could live with themselves knowing what they are doing to these poor animals. Such a sick world!

  • GW says:

Pure evil. Those who gives these dogs to labs should be experimented on! Then they might know what it’s like and find some empathy. SHAME!

  • Audrey says:

So there’s animal cruelty laws for just about everything else…but isn’t animal testing torturous for animals? Even if there’s no result w something they’ll push the boundaries until there IS a result until it hurts the animal just to see how FAR they can go. Hmmm something’s not quite adding up.

  • keith says:

Its never never going to end is it..no matter how much we campaign for change. you can understand why frustrations turn to violent actions..

  • Anon says:

This is SO sickening and makes my heart hurt to think how happy these animals get thinking they’re free and going to a home… just to be put in an even WORSE situation of being imprisoned and tortured. This is SO gross. A University should set an example and be progressive. Not use old school barbaric experimentation on animals who can’t defend themselves.

  • Charlotte says:

please do not hurt those dogs for testing that is not right . you are murder to these dogs and other animals I hope you will get arrested for that long time in jail. they make me sick .

  • Doris Rauh says:

This is awkward and disgusting and as long as the US tolerates such a behaviour of an University it is shame for the whole nation! A nation is to be rated in the way they treat all their creatures living there! Especially those that cannot defeat themselves like animals and kids!
