Animals Served So Fresh That They Breathe

Written by PETA | March 19, 2010

Apparently, some people have gotten so impatient when it comes to satisfying their hunger that they can no longer wait for someone to kill their food for them. “Exotic eaters” are resorting to eating live octopi, and it has sparked a lively PETA HQ debate, which I need your help to win.

Which is worse for animals?polling

P.S. I have concluded (after minimal thought) that so-called “exotic eaters” and I have absolutely zilch in common. My definition of exotic tends to stray toward pyramids and belly dancers.

ewwww…. I mean eating animals is enough. Please! But eating them LIVE?!? Come on what kind of of example are you setting for your kids? Oh sweetie your hungry? Go eat the cat okay?

  • Barb B says:

Someone said animals eat other animals alive. I guess fish do. I’m not so sure about mammals. Cats grab an animals and shake it instinctively breaking it’s neck so it’s ‘fresh’ but not alive. I believe one animals eating another is a natural form of death and believe that nature provides for a kind death. I remember hearing more than one story of person being caught by tiger or bear or something and being surprised that in all cases person reported not feeling pain but being paralyzed with fear. It could be that internal drugs are secreted when intensely fearful that numb feelings. At least that is how I sooth my feelings at how cruel life looks for prey but our farming practices of keeping animals in filthy conditions and not being able to move is not natural. We pay I believe in eating animals that are not healthy and pass that lack of good health on to consumer. We need to preserve animals dignity and give them good quality of life before slaughter and humane slaughter practices because just because they can’t speak doesn’t mean they have no feeling and we need to respect all life. I’m trending away from meat but gradually.

What is the difference between us eating them alive and another animal eating them alive? I say survival of the fittest… if an animal can kill someone while they are being eaten then more power to them… if a human can survive eating something that can possibly kill them more power to them…. just don’t push your luck

  • random? says:

umm… do you know that animals eat animals alive agaist thier will its just life get over it!!!

  • natalie says:

Both abuses are horrible things to do to animals.

  • cindy haas says:

Hi I just find the the human animal proves time and time again just how low we can sink as a society. Thanks Cindy Haas

  • Dev says:

This is horrible! Poor animals…. I’m proud that I am a vegetarian.

  • Cat! =^-^= says:

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. It’s horrible to think that in the 21st century humans are still so barbaric to the point where they still equate cruelty with worldliness and class. FOR SHAME!!!

  • Ralph says:

AAG I find it rather funny that you ignored the fact I said that it was stupid for them to eat living animals. And no I will not go vegan because my biology is one that requires a totally balanced diet. That is unless you can seriously give me a diet that would show this.

  • Kurt K says:

Michelle Are you suggesting that 6 billion people should commit suicide? Would that include you your friends and family? All I have to say to that is you first. There is such negativity in here about our fellow man. Just remember everytime you talk about how terrible we all are remember you are to blame also. Furthtermore you need to give the planet and animals more credit they are pretty resilient.

  • Marianne G says:

This isn’t a new concept. People have been eating animals while they are still alive for centuries. what’s even more disturbing is that people can die from eating octopus. Their tentacles will latch onto the person’s throat and choke them to death.

  • AAG says:

Ralph There is one thing you need to know Humans will murder human and nonhuman animals for any reasons. Go vegan it is a moral imperative!!!

  • Ralph says:

There is one thing you need to know These animals will attack the human body if they’re not carefully eaten. There have been deaths of the human from the octopus using their suckers and basically tearing holes in the person’s stomach. Now I eat meat I won’t deny that. However I don’t like anyone eating live animals or that fish dish where the animal is still alive. That is cruel.

  • Michele says:

Humans are not actually designed to be omnivores. Everything about our physiology is designed for a herbivore diet. Our jaws our teeth our intestines and our stomach acid are the same as herbivores. Check out the basic science behind it and you will see. And I agree with one of the posts above humans are fked up!! We are completely destroying this planet with our socalled “superior” ways. Humans should go extinct and let the planet recover and allow the nonpolluting nongreedy earthlings to live life the way they were intended.

  • Kelley says:

people who need to get cheap thrills from eating live animals must lead really pathetic lives. I saw this years ago on the food or travel channelJapanese business men were eating from a fish laying on a plate. The fish’s gills were still moving as they were picking flesh from its poor body. It must have been 15 years ago and I still have not forgotten this.

  • Monika says:

    So sad…

  • rachelle says:

i don’t even know what to say about that….i am shocked people would be so cruel. i am sickened by this.

  • Alex says:

On one episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern he does this. Basically they cut up the octopus while it’s still alive and the tentacles keep moving for awhile after they’ve been detached. So sick and wrong! Zimmern made a comment along the lines of “It’s trying to make a prison break!” when one tentacle tried to curl outside of his mouth. He spent the majority of that segment going on and on about how cool it felt to eat something that was still squirming. I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach watching it but of course I couldn’t turn away P Last time I ever watched that show though.

  • stephanie bicknell says:

killing is wrong for any reason! when i watched the videos i started crying how could anyone want to do anything like hurt or KILL an innociant animal!

  • Aneliese says:

Humans are the most fed up species of animals on this planet.

  • Claudia says:

I couldn’t even think about eating something alive. I don’t wanna have anything moving in my mouth. When I read such things I am really proud to say that I am vegan.

  • Brien Comerford says:

Human carnivores are destroying the world. Their addiction to eating our fellow sentient creatures is anathema.

  • Ben says:

Well the animals in factory farms suffer far longer and never get to really live. While horrific other animals DO eat other animals alive. Having said that it’s not something people should do. When we eat other animals we kill them first so we can cook them. Most often that is. There are types of Sushi where the fish is butchered but left alive and of course some people like to eat “Raw” meaning living oysters… I don’t agree with the 100 vegetarianVegan is natural argument. But that man needs to kill and then cook his meat animals first makes a strong argument for it or at least reducing the amount of meat eaten. We are omnivores mostly. Note that we can eat things like cattle meat nearly raw though cooking helps us chew it better and might have been what started civilization. Other things like birds have to be properly cooked or eating them can make us ill. On the other hand most fruits nuts vegetables can be eaten immediately. By contrast our pet dogs and cats can gobble up all sorts of critters raw bones and all for the smaller ones and are healthier for it. But I can be eating a carrot my cat will meow to be offered some then smelling the carrot will give me a funny expression at “How CAN you eat that?”

  • shai says:

wow. whats wrong with people?? there are other ways to eat exotically that are cruelty free.

  • Kayla Barbaretta says:

    This is terrible
