Spain's national television network, RTVE, has announced that it is refusing to air bullfights, noting that it is inappropriate for children (and, we might add, anybody else) to see violence toward animals. Increasing opposition to bullfighting (72 percent of Spaniards are against it, Catalonia has banned it, and Ecuadoran president Rafael Correa recently called it a "spectacle of violence") might also have something to do with the move.
In the face of so much opposition, why does bullfighting still exist? In a word: tourists. If you travel to Spain, Portugal, or Central or South America, never patronize a bullfight, and if your travel agent includes tickets to bullfights in your tour package, ask him or her for a different itinerary.

I am so relieved that Spain is starting to show a step into the right direction ...Bullfighting is primitive and sadistic ...
This is yet another example showing that if constant effort against a form of animal abuse is maintained, a positive result will eventually be achieved. The pressure opposing animal cruelty must be kept up. Great news!!
Who are these people who find watching a defenseless animal being tormented and killed "entertaining"? Very disturbing to think they are walking around and some may have positions of power to fulfill such a blood lust. What are their thoughts on punishing their children?

Finally somebody shows some decency.
I love that bullfighting is barred from being aired in Spain where it started. And more so that the Ecuadorean president spoke out against it.
Hopefully the all of Latin American countries that endorse such a cruel, violent, arrogant socalled sport against a defenseless animal that feels everything humans feel.
Just look at the eyes of a bull and you see the entire story. The pain and sadness in animal suffering tells it all for those that have eyes to see.
yes this spectacle of violence must end, it is barbaric, inhumane and very cruel. Bravo RTVE for making the only humane choice.

It isn't solely a tourist thing: it's a culture thing. I've heard fans describing it as masculine-art (in the film 'Super Amigos'); they don't understand that bulls are conscious like young humans are... most fans are probably Christian & working on the false premise that bulls have no souls & thus deserve little respect. Actually it's true that bulls have no souls, but humans don't either; we mammals, e.g. bulls & humans, have consciousness which should be respected.
It's great people are turning against this. I especially like that the president of Ecaudor spoke negatively about it.
