A Tale of Two Emilys

That would be PETA supporters Emily McCoy and Emily Lavender (aka adorable fuzzy seal), who shook things up a bit at the fall conference of the Fisheries Council of Canada.

Check out the look on the face of the woman in the foreground.

Why were these two nice ladies attending a conference for the Fisheries Council? Because the Fisheries Department oversees Canada's annual seal slaughter, in which hundreds of thousands of baby seals are bludgeoned or shot to death. Boo, hiss!

The duo chanted and drew attention to the seal slaughter for about 20 minutes, then they were carted off to the pokey. Ah well, all in a day's work.

Mel. Your post made no sense. I agree with Michelle. I would have done the same damn thing.. you on the other hand like many others are selfish and care more about the human race than our animals. I don't. And this will not prevent you from getting a damn job.. get over it.

Thankyou both for standing up for the voiceless. I read a Farley Mowat book once which gave a nonfiction account of the killing of a baby seal and it's mother. It was so graphic and chilling the image that his words painted have stayed with me forever. No living creature should be subjected to that kind of torture!

Mel not sure where you live but in Canada a mischief or trespassing charge or even conviction if it gets that far in this case is not going to cause you too much grief for most future job opportunities. And loans are not based on whether or not someone has a criminal charge andor record but are based on their credit rating. These and other animal rights activists are not going to sit quietly worrying about a little mischief charge while seals are being slaughtered by the hundreds of thousands every year for FASHION!

Can anyone please tell me why you guys would risk life long ill will for yourselves for protesting at these events? Even more so when you do it in a setting like this? Do you not realize that being arrested just once can affect you getting a job or a loan for the rest of your lives? Please don't say "well Vick got away with it and he was a animal murderer" Vick's not you guys. Also frankly while I disagree with what he did I wish the penalties were stronger too karma is coming back to him in the form he's been horrible on the field. I'm sure I'll be shouted down for "not caring about the animals" I DO care about them. But I also care about you guys as people as well. You're animals too.

Way to go Emily and Emily!!! You are inspirational! Typical Canadian government response though try to keep the truth from getting out there by arresting people for lawful protesting. Keep up the awesome work PETA and fellow activists.

It's sometimes hard to believe that such a barbaric practice still exists in a supposedly civilised country although I've no doubt there are countless Canadians who are opposed to such cruelty. I think the purpose of having the comments moderated 'lol' is to prevent abusive messages being shown. There are some sad and pathetic individuals that feel the need to spend their time critising those who choose to speak out for animals.
