This PETA Staff Member Lost 80 Pounds With This One Lifestyle Change

She was already vegan for animals, but this one change made all the difference for her health.

Monica, a PETA staff member, didn’t use Wegovy, Ozempic, and other GLP-1s, but she did take a life-changing class that helped her rethink how she fueled her body. Over the course of one year, that shift led to 80 pounds lost in one year, and a major boost in how she felt day to day.

How Monica Lost 80 Pounds

Monica wasn’t new to being vegan. She stopped eating animal flesh at age five and went vegan for the animals years ago. But she enjoyed the endless array of unhealthy vegan treats, like:

Everything changed for Monica when she took a Food for Life class run by nutritionists from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. In the class, Monica learned that healthy eating is fueled by fiber—which can only be found in plants. Monica started cooking more from home, using Physicians Committee recipes and Purple Carrot meal kits that used plenty of vegetables, fruits, beans, leafy greens, and grains.

By steaming, baking, and boiling ingredients with water or veggie broth instead of dousing them with oil, Monica could enjoy eating pasta, potatoes, and all her favorite comfort foods in a way that was just as tasty, but better for her body.

The results? In just one year, Monica lost the weight, kept it off, and gained something even more important: energy, confidence, and a renewed sense of well-being.
