Undercover Photos from Angel’s Gate, Inc.
While volunteering at Angel’s Gate, Inc.—a self-proclaimed hospice and rehabilitation center that promises guardians that “special needs” animals will “live out their days in peace, dignity and love”—PETA’s investigator documented founder Susan Marino’s routine neglect of sick and handicapped animals, some of whom suffered and died as a result. View the investigator’s photographs, and take action.

Paralyzed dogs were left to drag themselves around—and often sustained wounds and bled—despite the availability of wheelchair carts. Scrappy died at Angel’s Gate in March 2011.

Like other paralyzed dogs at Angel’s Gate, Scrappy’s legs were covered with raw, open sores. These and similar wounds, including on animals’ genitals, were not treated.

Many animals died without veterinary treatment or hospice care. This emaciated, unresponsive cat was left to suffer and die in a cage. He was found dead a day later.

Marino told PETA’s investigator that this allegedly FIV-positive cat, Tuxie, has had this open wound for two years and that he ‘lets’ her pick the scabs off it every day.

Instead of expressing Marley’s bladder, Marino left him in the same diaper for up to two days. The investigator found Marley in urine-drenched diapers with urine scald.

Severely crowded, stressful conditions led to fights daily. Daisy is just one of the many dogs who sustained—and was denied veterinary care for—bloody wounds as a result.

Angel’s Gate founder Susan Marino denied this shih-tzu, Roscoe, veterinary treatment for a skin condition that she guessed was mange. He was frequently kept in this bathroom.

Pablo and Roscoe were often put in a bathtub that they could not climb out of on their own. Pablo was a geriatric poodle with a grapefruit-size tumor on his chest.

Marino left Cindy to suffer with a high fever, an infection that spread ‘pus everywhere,’ and an apparent neurological condition that caused her to have a severe head tilt.

Animals at Angel’s Gate were left to suffer from critical but treatable conditions, like the apparent respiratory infection affecting this cat, who was found dead just days later.

Marino leaves dead animals, such as this cat who was denied veterinary care for an apparent infection, out amid survivors, including on her own bed, for three days.

Because of a limp, this horse suffered for days at AG before dying from severe respiratory distress, which was repeatedly brought to Marino’s attention by PETA’s investigator.

Marino denied this dog the medication that a veterinarian had recommended to manage the pain caused by a large, aggressive growth in his throat.

This elderly, weak Chihuahua—given to Marino by an animal shelter—suffered terribly without veterinary treatment for about two weeks before dying.

This elderly, nearly blind dog was often kept in a bathroom. He was left to suffer skin and respiratory infections, had difficulty standing or walking, and urinated blood.

Marino left this blind, deaf, and matted dog outside for hours on end without proper shelter. Her website shows him as a puppy whom she claims to be ‘caring for.’

Like other paralyzed dogs, Star was forced to drag herself around instead of being put in a wheelchair cart and, as a result, sustained sores for which she was denied treatment or relief.

Marino told PETA’s investigator that this cat, who was suffering from congestion, died just hours after this photograph was taken. To the best of PETA’s knowledge, the cat had not received any veterinary care.

This cat was not isolated, despite the apparent infection that left his or her eyes swollen and draining discharge. Marino often allowed animals with contagious illnesses to spread disease to uninfected animals.

This lethargic, dehydrated cat died within days of his or her arrival at AG. Like other animals’ remains at AG, this cat’s body was left out in the open.
