According to the annual “F as in Fat” report released by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, nearly 35 percent of people in Louisiana have a body mass index above 30, making it the country’s fattest state. That’s a pretty hefty problem, so PETA came up with a proposal to help Louisianans be a little more saintly to their waistlines and animals. Vegans weigh an average of 18 percent less than meat-eaters, and they are less prone to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. I’d call that a good reason for Louisianans to cry “wee, wee, wee” all the way to the produce aisle.
