UW Panel Bans Former UW Primate Center Head From Experimenting on Animals

In an unprecedented move, the University of Washington’s animal oversight committee suspended the former head of the university’s Washington National Primate Research Center from all four of her own experiments on monkeys and other animals, citing Michele Basso’s blatant disregard of the rules, lack of responsibility, and loss of trust in the former leader of the center. Basso was fired from her leadership position last year, after we hand-delivered a letter urging the university’s Board of Regents to remove her for many actionable reasons.
