USDA Fines Alpha Genesis for Violations of Animal-Welfare Laws

The U.S. Department of Agriculture fined primate dealer Alpha Genesis $12,600 for violations of federal animal-welfare laws, including failing to handle animals humanely and failing to cage monkeys safely and securely. The investigation and resulting fine were prompted by a complaint filed by PETA that negligence and incompetence at Alpha Genesis had resulted in numerous injuries and deaths of monkeys imprisoned at the South Carolina facility.
