A. I. Corporation, Acu-Market, Good Price Appliances, VitaminLife, and HerbalShop—pledged to remove all products containing ejiao—a traditional Chinese “medicine” made from gelatin extracted from boiled donkey hides—immediately. Donkeys used for their skin in the ejiao industry are kept in filthy, cramped, concrete-floored pens. They’re beaten, their heads are bashed with a sledgehammer at the slaughterhouse, and they’re often still conscious when workers slit their throat.
