Tonia Haddix Sentenced to Prison

Thanks to PETA, Chimp Crazy villain Tonia Haddix is behind bars. In March 2025, Haddix pleaded guilty to perjury and obstruction of justice after lying about Tonka the chimpanzee’s whereabouts and defying a court order to surrender him to PETA, following PETA’s motion to the court documenting additional violations of court orders documented in Chimp Crazy. This came after the USDA filed an administrative lawsuit against Haddix and terminated her license following intense PETA pressure. In August 2025, Haddix was sentenced to 46 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay PETA’s fee award in lieu of a fine to the court. This sentence follows Haddix’s arrest by U.S. Marshals after a Missouri state court judge found four companies affiliated with the notorious wild animal broker in contempt of court for ignoring orders to hand over financial records and other related documents to PETA. Authorities then discovered that Haddix was keeping yet another chimpanzee in her basement, in the same cramped cell in which she had previously confined chimpanzee Tonka. Like Tonka, that chimpanzee is now safe in an accredited sanctuary.
