Midwest Food Companies Join Nationwide Push for Animal-Free Research

Two leading Midwest food companies—Wisconsin-based Winona Foods and Kemin Industries, of Des Moines, Iowa—have heeded PETA’s call to stop funding cruel experiments on animals at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Food Research Institute. They join numerous corporate sponsors that have done the same or pulled funds entirely for the institute’s gruesome tests on animals after hearing from PETA. The institute had previously changed its sponsorship policy to allow companies to restrict their donations from being used to fund animal experimentation—something it hadn’t previously allowed—after hearing from various sponsors and PETA.
