After hearing from PETA and nearly 50,000 of our supporters that holiday displays are anything but merry for sensitive reindeer, Illinois garden store Creative Landscapes LTD canceled its cruel holiday event featuring live reindeer! In nature, reindeer like to roam, forage, and socialize with others, but those used for holiday events are trucked from one venue to the next, roughly handled, and forced to interact with crowds. When they’re not being used in such displays, they’re often kept in barren pens at roadside attractions, where handlers may fail to provide them with adequate veterinary care and neglect them in other ways. Creative Landscapes LTD’s decision is a step toward a more humane holiday for all. To celebrate this victory, please urge other venues not to exploit reindeer.
“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
