Charity Cancels Cruel Pig Races

PETA was inundated with complaints about live pig races scheduled at the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Maryland in Annapolis. We contacted Special Olympics organizers to notify them that it was cruel for exhibitors to haul pigs around the country and subject them to terrifying situations. Organizers responded on the eve of the event that “[t]here will be no pig races at the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge” and extended an open invitation for all PETA members to participate.
