Following cruelty-to-animals charges resulting from PETA’s exposé of the facility, the zoo (which is the oldest private zoo in North America) announced that it would be closing its doors for good at the end of the season, after nearly 100 years in business. The zoo blamed PETA’s exposé for the drop in attendance that triggered its closure.
