EPA to End Reliance on Animal Tests After Decades of PETA Involvement

After 20 years of PETA protests, campaigns, and dedicated science work, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it would stop funding and requesting tests on mammals by 2035. The EPA also committed to shorter-term goals such as providing millions of dollars in funding to advance non-animal testing, reducing funding and requests for mammalian studies by 30% by 2025, and holding an annual conference on non-animal methods. While this is the first such commitment from a U.S. regulatory agency, the EPA’s announcement follows the Dutch government’s commitment to ending many types of animal testing by 2025, and PETA expects more countries to set similar goals in the future. We won’t rest until we’ve ended testing on all animals.
