After PETA urged the Melha Shrine in Springfield, Massachusetts—which had started using animals in its circus again two years ago—to recommit to holding exclusively human-only shows, the organization discontinued its animal circus! Following a drop in attendance, the Melha Shrine is now out of the animal-exploiting business. The public is making it clear that it doesn’t want to see elephants shackled in chains or tigers being whipped around a ring, and it’s choosing not to support this cruelty. The Melha Shrine is helping PETA push other circuses toward the animal-free future that they must embrace if they want to keep attracting audiences.
