Dean Foods Shares Support for Polled Breeding

Dean Foods—one of the largest U.S. dairy processors, with more than 50 dairy brands—posted animal-welfare language that outlines its support for polled (hornless) breeding, writing, “We also support a program that encourages the use of polled genetics into breeding programs to promote polled (naturally hornless) cattle, which may eventually eliminate or minimize the need for dehorning and disbudding.” PETA pressured the company at two of its annual shareholder meetings and got many of its corporate customers to ask for this change.
