Lamb Running From Slaughter Proves No One Wants to Die for Food

A young, defenseless lamb was caught on camera running for his life through Chicago streets after escaping from a local slaughterhouse.

Reports state that the incident lasted roughly 10 minutes. In the video, you can see a bearded man, most likely a slaughterhouse employee, chasing the frightened lamb.

After the lamb is cornered and captured, you can hear a man laughing and making the crude comment that he is “going to be lamb chops.” The same man is heard saying, “I’d run, too,” and “Ah, poor guy” as he’s slammed into the back of a pickup truck.

Every time we see animals on the news trying to escape the slaughterhouse and running for their lives through busy streets, dodging cars and fate, we root for them. We can only imagine how terrified this lamb was, wandering through the rain and trying to find refuge in a foreign, concrete environment. When animals fail to escape, we all know what the outcome will be.

And so do they. If slaughterhouses aren’t terrifying places, why would animals risk their lives to escape? Why would they panic when approaching the kill floor?

On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds, stuffed into wire cages or metal crates. They will never know their mother, root around in the soil, build a nest, or do anything natural and important to them. They will live their lives in darkness until the day they’re slaughtered.
