Raleigh, North Carolina, Civic Group Passes Moratorium on Beaver Trapping

January 2003

PETA received a flood of calls from members of Greystone Association, a civic organization in Raleigh, North Carolina, about the board of directors’ decision to trap and kill a colony of beavers who had dammed a culvert and had been chewing down trees. In response, we sent a letter to the community manager asking the association to reconsider plans to kill the beavers and, instead, accept PETA’s assistance in humanely resolving the conflict. After generating a great deal of local media attention to the beaver-control program, we persuaded the board of directors to place a moratorium on the trapping program until all options had been explored.
