Cruel Slaughterhouse in Minnesota Is Denied a Permit to Operate

July 2002

A concerned Carver County, Minnesota, resident contacted PETA after he learned of plans to open a slaughterhouse where countless animals would be slaughtered without being stunned first. PETA had many conversations with county officials and wrote numerous letters, one of which was read aloud at a planning commission meeting and another of which was distributed to all those attending the commission’s second meeting. We also called our members in the area directly and asked that they voice their opinions at several meetings, which they did. The turnout at the meetings was tremendous, and on July 1, the application for the slaughterhouse was rejected.
