Surf Shop Ends Its ‘Bobbing for Goldfish’ Contest

August 2011

At a festival in Mitchell Park, California, a surf shop was hosting a “bobbing for goldfish” contest. The goldfish were in a large plastic storage container, and anyone who was able to catch a live goldfish won something from the shop. PETA notified animal control, which ended the contest and warned the store’s owners—who were unaware that the contest was taking place—that charges will be filed if the contest happens again.
