Man Pleads Guilty after PETA Finds Dog Abandoned and Dying in North Carolina
Local law enforcement contacted PETA for help with a dog named SJ found in a vacant house in Hertford County, North Carolina, where he’d apparently been left for dead. PETA responded and rushed SJ for emergency veterinary care. SJ was found to be emaciated, suffering from dehydration, hypothermia, persistent bloody diarrhea, and too weak to stand. Despite the best care possible, SJ’s condition quickly deteriorated, and he was euthanized to relieve his suffering. PETA helped locate the dog’s former owner, who had moved to Virginia, and the man later pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals.
