Pitzer Colleges Installs First-Ever Animal Memorial Plaque

In September 2026, Pitzer College became the first school in the country to install a memorial plaque honoring animals killed for food. PETA worked with Pitzer students, alumni, and faculty to get the project approved and sponsored the installation of the plaque, which is now prominently displayed at the entrance to the campus dining hall. The plaque serves as a lasting reminder of the millions of cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals who spent their lives on factory farms before being killed, to be served on campus. The memorial received support from renowned civil rights activist and longtime vegan Angela Davis, who highlighted the plaque during her 2026 Pitzer Commencement address.
