Meliá Hotels International Bans Animal Encounters

Following discussions with PETA, Spain-based hospitality giant Meliá Hotels International confirmed that it will no longer allow attractions or encounters involving live animals at its properties. Animals used for interactions and photo opportunities are often warehoused in dirty enclosures and cramped conditions. Transporting animals and displaying them in crowded areas risks further stress, leading them to act unpredictably, panic, escape, or lash out. Meliá’s decision will help spare animals from this immense stress. No animal should suffer for hotel displays. Urge these Tennessee hotels to follow Meliá’s lead and stop exploiting parrots for photo ops and other encounters.
