Wicked Is Casting a Spell of Compassion On and Off Screen
Wicked: For Good isn’t just charming audiences; it’s inspiring real-world kindness for animals. The film’s message about justice and empathy has even made the Wizard himself rethink what (and who) ends up on his plate. Find out how the film inspired him to go green—and what special gift PETA UK sent to this year’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive.’
Jeff Goldblum Is Making a Wonderful Change
I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason—and maybe the Wicked universe came into Jeff Goldblum’s life to inform him that being plant-powered is good for everyone.
Although his character is the cause of so much suffering in Oz, Goldblum explained that working on Wicked made him realize that Earth’s animals deserve better, too.
Animals Should Be Seen and Heard
There’s No Place Like Home, but for animals in the food industry, “home” is often filthy, crowded, windowless sheds where workers cram them in by the thousands. Gentle chickens, pigs, cows, turkeys, and other animals spend their entire lives in these conditions, which are the industry norm regardless of whether the packaging claims that the animals were treated “humanely” or were “grass-fed.”
The Wicked Stars Are Sparkling Green
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are both longtime vegans who show compassion to animals on and off screen. Erivo’s powerful performance as Elphaba—who fights for animal liberation in Oz—spells out a clear message: That everyone deserves to live freely, no matter their species. Their performance in Wicked: Part 1 earned them a “Friendship for Good” award from us.
To celebrate the Wicked cast members who are already embracing the magic of being vegan, PETA UK sent a bottle of oat-based dairy-free liqueur (Baileys, naturally) to Jonathan Bailey to toast to his promising vegan future. In an accompanying letter, PETA UK asked People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” to give animal- and planet-friendly living a try.
