Progress! After Talks With PETA, Pakistan Launches the Country’s First Animal Rights Curriculum

Earlier this year, PETA held a historic meeting with Salman Sufi, the head of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Strategic Reforms Unit, in which we discussed, among other topics, the implementation of an education program to help children better understand how to share the world with and care for animals. We sent course suggestions, including PETA India’s Compassionate Citizen program and PETA’s Share the World kit, for his consideration. Today, the federal government launched the country’s first animal rights curriculum, designed to “teach children about the responsibility of keeping pets and to treat stray animals with compassion.” It will be taught initially in primary grades in both private and public schools in the capital, Islamabad.
