PETA Haunts Furry Olsen Twins at NYC Book Signing

New York -- Wearing scary "Trollsen Twins" masks and holding signs that show animals killed for fur next to the taglines "Hairy Kate and Trashley Olsen: Fur Tramps" and "Trollsens: Fur Hags From Hell," members of peta2--PETA's youth division--will protest outside the fur-crazed Olsen Twins' book signing at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square on Tuesday. The twins--whom peta2 has nicknamed "Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen"--flaunt fur, even though peta2 has alerted them to the cruelty of the fur industry. Just in time for Halloween, peta2 even has a special Web site dedicated to the diabolical duo where visitors can play an interactive video game called "Dress Up the Trollsens."

Why is peta2 pelting the scary-thin siblings? Animals who are trapped for fur often languish for days in steel-jaw traps before trappers stomp on their chests or break their necks. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy cages before they are killed by poison, gas, or anal electrocution--or they are just skinned alive.

"From their ghoulish garb to their skeletal frames, every day is Halloween if you're an Olsen twin," says Dan Shannon, PETA's assistant director of youth campaigns. "It's frightening how out of touch Mary-Kate and Ashley are--no industry is more violent or bloody than the fur trade."

Where: Barnes & Noble, 33 E. 17th St. (north side of Union Square between Broadway and Park Avenue), New York City
When: Tuesday, October 28, 12 noon

Broadcast-quality footage of animals who are killed for fur is available.
