Washington - Wearing sexy yellow bikinis outside the legislative meeting of the United Egg Producers in Washington on Wednesday, six PETA beauties will crowd into three cramped cages to mimic conditions for laying hens on factory farms. The ladies will hold egg-shaped signs that read, "Chicks Suffer for Eggs."
Date: Wednesday, May 14
Time: 12 noon
Place: Outside the Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Ave. N.W., Washington
Why are PETA's caged "chicks" sticking up for hens? After their sensitive beaks are cut off with a hot blade when they are only days old, chickens spend an average of two years crammed together with four to 10 other hens into cages so small that they can't even spread their wings. When their worn-out bodies can no longer produce enough eggs, the hens are sent to slaughter to be turned into cat food or feed for other chickens.
"I'll heat things up a little to show exactly what cold-hearted egg producers do to make hens' lives a living hell," says PETA "chick" Shawn Herbold. "The way that hens are treated on factory farms is every bit as hideous as the cruel way calves are confined to produce veal."
