I don't even understand why human beings are still testing on animals when we live in a day and age that no longer requires us to. Animals are sensitive and intelligent creatures, that is simply the truth. Animals and humans have different physiologies and react differently to different things. Don't believe me? Thalidomide, first developed in the 1950s to ease morning sickness for pregnant mothers. Scientists and engineers tested this drug on guinea pigs, who showed no side affects. The children, however, we're born with moderate to severe birth defects, unlike the guinea pig kin. The drug was then stopped after it was linked to teratogenicity and neuropathy. Animal testing is no longer required.

95% of all pharmaceuticals that pass animal testing, fail in humans. This statistic does not include the pharmaceuticals that are later recalled because they are harmful to humans. This failing testing "model" (use of animals) continues solely because the companies who provide the animals for research are multi-billion dollar industries that do not want to go out of business. This failing model also prevents pharmaceutical companies from being sued; referring to their "research" to protect their assets from lawsuits. There is a better way, but humans are hesitant to change tradition to spite or own intelligence...all in favor of greed! We're better than this!

The human race is the most disgusting, the most hypocritical, the most violent and hateful of all beings on this planet. We will al get whats coming to us, and I for one will be very happy because of it. We have slaughtered and put into extinction millions of INNOCENT animals for enjoyment, for sport, or just to feed our obese appetites. Thousands and thousands of countries have Grocery stores and farms that kill animals for food already. WHY IS THERE STILL SLAUGHTERING OF MANY ANIMALS, or supposedly "Medical experimentions" going on, on animals? These SADISTIC experimants are for HUMAN diseases, NOT ANIMAL diseases. Lets take all the Rapists, Serial killers, and criminals and use them for test subjects, afterall they are HUMANS, and will be tested on with HUMAN medicines, STOP THIS SICK STUFF. STOP the hunting, STOP animal ABUSe. I am so sick of seeing INNOCENT animals being viciously wiped out by us. WE deserve every thing thats coming to us.

i agree to XIII, willfred and Hastaroth. We call ourselves superiors but in reality we're not even close. We might have the brains and capabilities that other beings don't have but that doesn't automatically mean we can do whatever we want and just step on the rights of other beings who cannot even speak and fight for themselves. Animals by far are the most abused creatures in this world yet we always benefit from them. is this how we repay them? if there's such a thing called HELPLESS, it's not US, it's THEM. to Rdizzle, the end does not justify the means!

I don't support the use of animal testing in cosmetics, but it is absolutely essential for human health to test different therapies and drugs in an animal model. There are different therapies that have potential to cure cancers that can't legally be tested on humans until they have been tested successfully in a similar animal model. The animals involved in clinical trials receive better care than they would in the hands of a crazed 7 year old and are humanely euthanized at the end of the studies...there are no animals that are allowed to continue on to be used in different trials, as that would alter the data for the new trial. I will admit that some of the psychology experiments on mice are quite cruel; I don't see the benefit of purposely placing mice in water to measure the amount of time it takes for them to give up, stop swimming, and submit to being drowned. Things like that are wrong, as it really does not contribute to the health of the human race, but that is no reason to stop all types of testing.

Well,Mr.Mad Scietist,the medication that healed us was not used by us because it was tested on animals but because it was tested on humans during clinical trials.And there have been many substances that were tested on animals succesfully but did not have the same effects on the humans that were supposed to be cured by them-therefore the animals used in the initial experiments were tortured and killed for nothing.Is that fair to you?

I'm surprised to see here several people preaching in favor of experimenting on animals.Someone said "It is great we can use animals, instead of people, for certain research".Why is it "great"? Because you have to get a writen consent from a human whom you must fully inform about the experiment he will be used in,while you can torture and kill an animal without its consent?Is that moral? Someone else saiys:"When there aren't starving humans in the world then you can cry about animals dying until then, we should turn homeless animals into food for the starving. Problem solved, no more suffering animals and less starving people...".Obviously this commenter thinks humans are the highest valued creatures on earth and everything else should be sacrificed for them.Finally,I think we should make John the biomedical engineer go through some experiment of the kind he does on animals so that he will taste his own work's consequences......

It is great we can use animals, instead of people, for certain research. Pigs, are somewhat physiologically similar to humans and make very suitable research animals. I think the "hogger" shows on TV show the problem we are having with pigs. They can certainly provide adequate numbers of unwanted wild pigs for research and nutritious food sources.

They reason behind animal testing is because of consumerism. I bet that all of the googly-eyed people who "shed tears" for these animals buy products or want products that must be tested to be safe. Honestly, PETA, a great organization, did not post these videos to read your crybaby comments. Seriously, if you actually cared, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! And for those who think that we should do testing on people, volunteer yourselves, or even better, your children. The problem is not with the scientists, its with all of us. We want these products and therefore create a market for companies to develop and manufacture them. Cure human stupidity and greed, and all else will follow.
