Good for you, Kellan! Love seeing celebrities who support shelter animals! If you're interested in adopting a rescue dog, you should read Lee Harrington's "Rex and the City." It's a great book about how adopting a dog can change your life! The website has some really neat resources too: www.rexandthecity.net.

Animals are my life! Dogs are sooo loyal and cats are very respectful. So to see an animal locked up in a cage hurts so much. It is my life long goal to help all animals find homes. I love what your doing Kellan.

I volunteer at an animal shelter and yes they are very well taken care of, but they need to be in a loving home, cuddled and played with. The shelters are so busy cleaning up after the animals and feeding them , walking them, that they dont have much time to take each animal out and play with them for more a few mins a day. I adopted my cat. And he really did choose me. He was the only cat that clung to the cage for dear life and he looked at me wih his big eyes and wanted me to take him home. So I did. Please please adopt. Makes me sad to think of all the animals locked up. :(

awwww.he's sweet.good for him. i just don't like the way he used the word "owner". we need to get rid of that word-for good. it should be guardian.

I love Twilight so I had to check out this ad. It really touched my heart and I agree with Kellan 100%. Yet, for me the most horrifying scene was the killing of a seal in this ad. I can't believe that a welfare country like Canada will not have stopped this horrendous practice yet. Shame on British Columbia, Canada. A big vote down from Hungary.

It simply comes down to "Why are you breeding dogs, bringing more into the world when there are already too many?" That is why breeders are irresponsible. It is not that they don't treat their animals well, it's that that they are contributing to a massive over population crisis that is causing animals to suffer. You are not taking a risk by adopting from a shelter, just get to know the animal before you adopt. Responsible shelter encourage meeting and bonding with the animal before you fill out the paterwork so you know that the pet is right for you.

The breeders contribute to the unwanted pet population because they dump the unwanted puppies that are can't be sold. I got a mixed breed 4 month old in LA in 2004 that had been dumped and was picked up on the streets, people should spay and neuter and also not buy from breeders, there are plenty of young dogs at the shelters that need good homes. Against pet stores, breeders, and people who don't spay/neuter their dogs. All a problem when they end up at the shelters especially the high kill ones in bad areas with few adoptable people.

“it's clear that there's no such thing as a responsible breeder". This accusation comes from the fact that many breeders and pet stores do not treat their animals well. But there is no way to know, or to prove that there are absolutely no responsible animal breeders. This generalization is very offensive to those people who breed animals and treat them ethically, as PETA stands for. This phrase invalidates and weakens PETA's persuasion to adopt instead of buying an animal. With their all-inclusive generalization, and lack of evidence, there is no strength to this argument.This ad could have been a LOT more persuasive. The statement on the ad "Buying animals is killing animals" is another example of a weak argument. This comparison between "buying" and "killing" has no direct correlation, thus very confusing to someone who has not, or will not, research farther. After asking other people what their initial reaction to this ad was, every person said that they were confused and had no idea what the correlation between buying and killing animals. PETA could have strengthened this argument by adding facts or statistics to the ad, explaining what is wrong with simply "buying" animals. Just my thoughts, I'm not saying i necissarily disagree, I just think it was a very poor advertisement.

most of my black people in the townships of south africa in tembisa, think that dogs have teeth that are made to chew bones not to eat meat. dogs should sleep outside because they stink and if you could see those dogs you would'nt touch them yourself

I feel bad for the dogs in pet stores too. They underfeed them so that they don't grow and they are stuck in the small cages. We ended up getting my dog because he looked so sad where he was.
