What’s the Worst Way That Circuses Abuse Elephants?

Written by PETA | September 9, 2010

Circuses such as Ringling Bros. abuse elephants in so many ways that it’s tough to decide which is worst. But when we polled people on our PETA mobile list, here’s what they chose:

are Peta any closer to banning exotic/domestic animals in circuses across the states?

  • Yvonne says:

I worked with Ringling back in 1958, never saw abuse of animals, I myself had a dog act. Things really have changed since, People have become terrorist towards animals, this has to stop. Go see Cirque Soleil, and stay away from the circus with animals. We used to say,” this person is an animal “, but the ones handling the poor beasts , don’t deserve to be called animals, they are much worse. This is NOT training anymore, but abuse, and that in the 20th century, it is like living in the stone ages.

they are all cruel!. I hope for a day when the circus is GONE for good and animals aren’t forced to preform

  • SUE HARRINGTON says:

they should not be allowed to have animals in there circus’ since the only way they know how to treat them is sadistic and cruel…and only teaches young people it is ok to ridicule animals what they do is not natural…they do not stand on their heads in nature…maybe the circus people should start doing this stupid crap..so we can laugh and prod them..then maybe they will change…doubt it though

Thanks for wanting to take more action for the poor elephant who was forced to give rides at the Indiana State Fair. There are several important steps you can take! Please let fair management know you wont be back until the elephant rides are eliminated. http://www.in.govstatefairfaircontactus Post comments on the fairs Facebook page http://www.facebook.compagesIndianapolisINIndianaStateFair Fire off a letter to your newspaper. Explain how cruel it is to haul an elephant around and keep her chained when shes not working. Urge readers not to patronize elephant rides. As long as people buy a ticket the fair will believe visitors support the rides. Finally we can help you plan a demonstration next year outside the gates. Email us at Ateampeta.org.

    Ditto Hannah!!

There is no contest. All the abuse is horrible and unnecessary!

  • Dianne says:

Gosh Rene that must be incredibly frustrating. From the time my quads were born I refused to take them to circuses with animals. Our fairs here in canada don’t typically have animals other than some farm animals from what ive seen anyway. And that’s bad enough.
