Thanksgiving Aftermath

Written by PETA | November 26, 2007

I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday. Mine would have been pretty close to perfect if it hadn’t all been tainted by yesterday’s sad events in Tampa Bay. But the show must go on, and though it may not seem like it right now, there are more important things than the apparent inability of the Washington Redskins to throw accurate passes inside the 20-yard-line. For instance: While half the country was busy stuffing their shopping bags with every piece of fabric they could find this Friday, a number of animal lovers around the U.S. spent their holiday reminding shoppers that—as much as their rabid consumerism helps America—there are plenty of ways of doing that without hurting animals, and that it’s the easiest thing in the world to buy comfortable, stylish clothes without fur, leather, or wool. Here are a couple of the pics that ended up in my Inbox this morning—the first is from a Fur-Free Friday demonstration outside the mall here in Norfolk, and the second from a great demonstration in Miami Beach.

thank you for that Debby. i totally agree that meat eaters don’t give any thought to this. today i got in a huge argument with my friend about this. she refuses to inform herself about what goes on in slaughterhouses because she says she doesn’t want to know. i told her she was being ignorant and she got mad at me. but if she refuses to inform herself and therefore has no knowledge then she doesn’t even have a right to tell me off which she did. she said “it’s the food chain and the animal is already dead so why don’t you just eat meat?” i don’t know how to tell her that it’s how animals are treated before they are killed that i have a problem with! its so frustrating how people can be so misinformed and ignorant.

I want to live in a cruelty free world! and we need every single person possible to help this defenseless animals… they can’t speak but we can speak up for them. and to all those people that think is ok.. sure yeah is just an animal but if that so happened to be your kid or even a human that you dont even know you will probably want justice. just like in WWII when german scientist will use human skin and even put them throw terrible experiments people thought that that was the sickest thing possible. thanks to all the supporters and keep it up!

Uhhh hello people the animals they use for fur and leather arent the same animals used for meat. Slaughterhouses and fur farms are separate industries… “The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.” Leonardo da Vinci “Our task must be to free ourselves . . . by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” Albert Einstein

Reading the comments of a minority here makes me so sad. Imagine making fun of folks who choose to be kind! Peter the cow is only dead because you want to eat it. And Rojo wool might be a natural fiber but the attaining of it causes unbearable pain and suffering. Vegetarians and vegans are people who have given serious thought to the ramifications of meat eating. You meat eaters give it no thought at all i.e thoughtless.

  • Michele says:

Steve wow that is so original NOT! I promise you we are laughing AT you not with you. LOL Evelyn don’t listen to the anti’s here. You are right someday people will find it unbelievable that humans actually used to eat meat just like it’s hard to believe that people bought and sold people to use for their own good.

  • rojo says:

anon perhaps you should read peters comment again. He doesn’t seem to support fur only killing but like me sees nothing wrong with the leather being used as the animal has already been killed to produce meat. Cotton is a great natural fibre particularly for warm weather wool equally so for cool climates. The alternatives come mainly from petroleum products. Good quality woolen garments shouldn’t itch itching is all about poorly woven strands with strand ends hanging out. Look out for fine Australian wool.

Religion is a form of mind control.

  • Heidi says:

peter do you really think we’re brain washed? that’s what society is people who support PETA are those who bother to research into “facts” and make up their own minds we’re the ones who don’t blindly follow ideals. Anyway aside from the usual random rants of an uneducated person that we become accustomed to my christmas will be vegetarian and fur free just as it should be peace on earth extends beyond humans

you know that peter up there is a sicko. how can he say that??? have you seen those animals after they are skinned??????????? you know with clothes buying i dont buy leather i buy the stuff that looks like it i dont buy fur THAT IS JUST CRUEL! and i dont buy wool anything but cotton makes me itch. you know the way i look at fur is its killing animal and wearing their fur right? well would you want that to happen to your pet? do you want to wear your pets fur??? HELLO!? NO!! my cats and beautiful in their fur and god help whoever were to touch my cats!!!!!! Thanks for everyone who helps the animals!!

  • Freddy Krueger's Glove says:

Evelyn the fact that you wrote that as an “adult” is scary enough. and “someday it will all be an unbelievable story” that civilization passed off ontogenetically truncated childishadults like you for 10 millennium sitting next to your domesticated nightmares.

  • rojo says:

evelyn what you are proposing is indoctrination if your arguments are valid they should be able to convince mature brains and not just the vulnerable. It’s sounding a lot like religion in general.

  • Caboose (anti Combine. Go Gordon Freeman) says:

Evelyn to get to the children dont turn them against their parents Your Mommy kills animals

  • Steve says:

Fur is warm and I am a dedicated PETA member+ People Who Eat Tasty Animals

    Susannah S YES!!!!

  • Susannah S says:

Great demonstrations! Keep up the good work Petaphiles! I’m dreaming of a furfree Christmas a turkeyfree Thanksgiving a hamfree Easter a time when ALL living beings can enjoy the day at hand without anyone having to pay with hisher life. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful world?

  • Evelyn Ruiz says:

I think if we can get to the children it will change everything. They always want to pray for animals while the adults smile indulgently like this is a little wierd or something. in reality they are closest to God and they know what it’s like to be controlled by adult humans. Someday it will all be an unbelievable story…just like slavery is to us now. Keep up the good work!!!

  • peter says:

another set of poeple that dont understand things wake up PETA is brainwashing you all besides from the look of it they look like they eat meat and wear fur. i do only agree killing the beast for only its fur is not a good thing but i do enjoy a hamburger and since the cow is dead anyway she makes a good leather coat

  • Mystique Makepeace says:
