Photo: Hot Dogs Cause Butt Cancer?

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine erected this billboard in Chicago to help people in the hot-dog capital reduce their colorectal cancer risk—no small task since 39 percent of Americans don’t even know what the colon is. Seriously. Although I’m guessing a much greater percentage don’t know what’s in a hot dog

Besides mechanically separated meat, bones, connective tissue, and the stuff they put in instant hand warmers, hot dogs and other processed meats are chockfull of cancer-causing nitrates, which greatly increase the risk of deadly colorectal cancer

Given the choice, I think I’d rather put down the bun and save my buns.

  • Kathleen Kennedy says:

First of all…@ jadefire…settle down…this isn’t a Spelling Bee…afterall, aren’t the colon and rectum…ummm the same thing? Ok…hot dogs have been suspect for a VERY long time…remember the whole Red Dye 2 scare??? Nobody should be eating this stuff…first of all because of the torture that these beautiful, sensitive, pigs must endure and then because it’s just bad meat…unhealthy, and now it’s cancerous…to be honest, I can’t believe they admitted this. Well, late is better than never for some things, I suppose…

  • jadefire says:

Um… NO it doesn’t cause butt cancer. Butt cancer would be a tumor on the Gluteus maximus. You need to call it what it is – Rectal cancer. We are NOT morons to not know what rectal cancer is. In fact, you look stupid advertising that way.

  • Rahul says:

  • Sky says:

Gross! How could you ever eat a hot dog, even thinking about what’s in it?
