PETA U.K. Staff Have Turkey for Christmas Dinner

Written by PETA | December 16, 2009

But she wasn’t the main course—she was the guest of honor:

Turkey

Angel came to PETA U.K.’s holiday dinner from Hen Haven—a safe sanctuary for chickens and turkeys who would otherwise have been slaughtered. Feasting on faux turkey, grilled figs, nut roast, and mince pies with new friends sure beats a short, traumatic life on a factory farm.

Great to see. I’m a vegetarian who lives amongst meat eaters. I never enjoy watching people devour turkeys at christmas. Hopefully one day the world will learn to live in harmony with animals and not against them.

We won our Turkey in a tombola and requested that she came ‘fully functioning’. They saved murdered the rest of course a white female who we named Blossom. That was 2 years ago and apart from a bit of weight watching she’s fine and although she lives with our hens and a goose is her special friend she really loves human company. Turkeys are NOT dim or dumb!

  • Rev. Meg Schramm says:

I used to work in a gift shop at a small zoo in Santa Ana California. In the morning I would enter through the back gate and go through the farm animal section to open the gift shop which was the only way in for employees in the morning. Every moring our big Tom turkey would try to defend his territory rightfully so he deflated my bicycle tires so many times I became an expert in patching and changing bicycle tires. I still love turkeys though they make great security guards!!

  • Carla* says:
