Oh, Madonna

Look out, ladies and gentlemen, here comes Madonna. In a £35,000 chinchilla fur coat. For those of you doing the math, that means Madge needs to have more than 60 furry animals electrocuted just to keep her warm on a Wednesday night—which means that if you’re planning on being anywhere near her U.K. residence this Christmas, you might want to hide your babies and your family pets. The story, such as it is, is that Madonna was spotted last Wednesday at a Mayfair restaurant called Cecconi’s positively drowning in the dead animals, which had been sewn together for her by the designers at Fendi.

Why would anyone with a shred of decency ever consider wearing such a thing? The prevailing theory around here is that when it comes to making headlines, Madonna is just too old to flash her beaver like Britney Spears, so she brought out the chinchilla. (Oh, zing! See what I did there?)

Anyway, we fired off a letter to her this morning to ask her to just for God’s sake, stop it, and you can read that here. If you’d like to let her know how you feel yourself, you can contact her using the following information:

Liz Rosenberg (Madonna’s US publicist)

She’s still wearing fur in 2010. This woman really doesn’t care about anyone or anything except herself. She’s a hypocrite and a fake. I ceased buying her music years ago.

  • Jacqueline says:

Madonna thinks she is veg i think that is a lie because if she wears fur it means that she does not care about animals at all and how they ar tortured for there fur. I is discusting how people were fur knowing these poor animals were killed and feeling the pain they are Gods creatures. Animal lover

  • kate says:

I love animals and do not condone wearing fur ever. I have a pet chinchilla and it sickens me. My question is though how can we be absolutely sure that Madonna’s coat and all other celebs fur clothes are real? They do make very good fake fur items today. I would be hesitant to bash someone I did not know based on the medias say so.

To Jesse! The reason why animals kill animals for food is because the are ANIMALS!!!!!! We as people have stores to go buy food very easily not problem so for us there is not excuse because we have it so easy to find better sources of food in a store. How can you compare yourself to animal? Are you going out hunting with them and using your teeth and eating raw meet like they are? Are you going to sleep like they do? Nature has not put animals in factory and furr farms people have! I believe we you eat animal and it has been treated so badly and you don’t care where it comes from then later you will have some other problems. It’s called Karma! What goes around comes around!

  • not a fan says:

No wonder I like animals more the people!

  • jimbob says:

I love to eet animals you douche bags

  • ean says:

she looks fabulous that is fendi couture. get over it you spazzes. there are worse things than stupid fur

  • Yup says:

well i just wanna tell ppl like giorgio who commented and said “the world wood be over populated if we didnt kill animals”. ppl dnt go into the forest and look fr animals they BREED THEM! and if it were over populated then its because of the breed these places r doing to make all the fur stuff. use ur brain ppl dnt go out looking fr animals to skin they selectivly breed then and torture and other things.

  • sam says:

giorgio chinchilla’s wouldn’t be overpopulating the world they’re practically extinct in their natural habitat because of people like madonna. I’m sure you wouldn’t have the same opinion if you had pet chinchilla’s and someone wanted to make a coat out of them. Charlie I agree without humans the world would be a much better place.

  • Jesse says:

Okay. I only came across this page when reading the latest Cyanide and Happiness comic but I will throw in my two cents. IN RESPONSE TO THE STORY I do have to agree that it is wrong to make a coat out of something as small as a chinchilla. That is absurd. It’s a tiny little animal and you just slaughtered 60 little animals just to wear them what once? IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS I am going to give my honest Biblefree opinion about killing animals. It’s wrong and right at the same time. It’s wrong in the sense that people kill animals just for to wear their skin furry animals decorate the interior of their cars cows and for trinkets elephants. That is a pointless reason to kill an innocent creature. However I do not think it is wrong to kill an animal for food. Animals kill other animals for food all the time. Why must the human race be exempt from what nature has been doing for millions of years? Just because we have a higher state of intelligence must we be confined to our own set of natural laws? I know that there are a lot of cases in which animals are treated badly before and during the act of their slaughter but if you are truly concerned about the animal then buy freerange and I mean truly freerange not something that claims to be freerange when the animal was actually only allowed out of a cage for five minutes a day or go Kosher. Kosher meat as I have heard is treated humanely.

Oh my god! Why is Madonna’s wearing furs since she’s been telling people about conservation works. And she is telling the world that she’s adopting children from other nations yet she herself does not have a passion for the animals on the earth. She’s a real hypocrite!!! Hey come on guys gals out there we should stop supporting her! She’s using our hard earned money to KILL the animals out there!! Boo..Madonna!

  • ash says:

hey I say there is enough of us in the world to raise an army and take control of this world. We could mount a very real challenge and make sure the meat eating humans remain under our control. only a thought

this is to ‘livia’ for a start the peta have to say alledegly in their letters to cover themselves you stupid person and seem as though they livesleepeat and breath to fight for justice to animals every second of the day..so they know what real and fake look like! and as for anyone who has been saying she is so good for adopting a kid from some poor country..hello she hand picked! the child so never mind that he already had a father and there were hundreds of other children who were orphans oh no she wanted that one coz he was cute how pathetic! how does that help! at least angelina jolie helps children who have no parents or family!!!

This is for becca who believes that animals were put here for food clothing and companionship. Just 150 years ago the commonly held belief was that Africans were put here to be slaves to whites due to their “inherent inferiority” and their slave masters were generous enough to enslave them in order to “improve” their lives and teach them to be “Christians”. Sometimes our views simply reflect our own comfort level and selfinterest. That appears to be the case with you becca. Too bad you missed your ideal time period. But at least you have the animals to abuse misuse out of the “goodness of your heart”.

Does Madonna hang out with politicians?! They tend to be wishy washy in their views and comments!! She has commented of her humanitarian stand. Yet her actions speak loud for her!!

PETA shame on YOU! In your letter to Madonna you are so cordial and diplomatic as you should be even saying to Madonna “wearing what APPEARS to be a real chinchilla coat” Keyword APPEARS to be. As in ALLEGEDLY. In the meantime you have already bashed and berated her publicly along with a slew of other celebs. The thing that really pisses me off about you guys at PETA as that you accuse all everyone of wearing fur without confirming the FACTS. Fashion has come a long way and much in the name of animal awareness as you would want it to be! Many celebs wear FAKE fur and this could possibly include Madonna in this picture. However you’ve already done your damage by pissing all over her in public and getting the rest of your radical sheep followers to jump on the bashing bandwagon without thinking with any kind of their own brain they might have. It’s so ridiculous and you expect celebs and others to work with you? To hear your message? To be okay with it when you fire off spewing nasty words and spinning skewed negative allegations? WHATEVER you have lost my respect. I love animals and would never wear fur but you guys are idiots and a defeat to your own cause.

  • Livia says:

Madonna wearing fur is not a surprise but people saying that animals are in this planet “for food clothing and companionship”! This is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • Ami says:

Erin No self respecting vegetarian would touch fur. Killing an animal for it’s fur is different to killing it for meat how exactly? And as for “wearing it rarely” those chinchillas died so they could be shoved in the back of her wardrobe. Revolting. She should donate that thing to PETA for the homeless and the animals.

  • Silvana says:

Even being a great Fan of Madonna i could’t believe she still wears Fur i think they what we could do is write to the publicist to see if helps at least lets try to do something.

  • tony makauskas says:

Well Ihate to say it but that is a sharp looking coat the Lady M is wearing. To bad its not fake fur. tony

A little off topic but important nonetheless… Peta just does not understand the needconcept of wildlife conservation without conservationi.e. hunting fishing this world would be full of helpless dying animals spreading diseases to all life. peta spends far more money on publicity and destruction of property while us hunters and conservationists are spending money that actually goes back to help the animals building habitat endangered species protection… animals are gifts that God put on this earth intended for food clothing and companionship read the Bible you might figure that out. He was not a vegetarian by the way … Dear Becca This is also in regard to your comment about “God put animals here for food companionship and clothing” As a compasionate and life lover I have to tell you that completely disagree with your “want to feel better” idea about animals. The bible is nothing but a book nothing that it contain can be said true. The bible contradicts it self over and over again just like many other holy books out there. Once upon a time it was said that the bible justified slavery and now slavery does not exist so why can’t we do the same with animal abuse and yes including the meat and dairy industries. And even if we had sometime of power over animals it does not mean that we have to abuse them. Do not use the bible as a way to justify your wrong doing. Live and let live.

He was not a vegetarian by the way … Dear Becca In regards to your message that for your convenience I have posted above my entry I am going to venture to say what all the other delightful people on here are thinking but too polite to say you are VERY VERY ignorant. I am so SICK of people quoting the Bible to back their crap theories up! Let me level with you and quote the very same book right back at you have you ever read the commandment “Thou Shalt Not Kill” ? And for the prolifers out there how about “Every Life is Sacred” ? It disgusts me to no end to see you write that animals are ours for “food clothing and companionship”. ANIMALS ARE PEOPLE. Are black people here for white people? You’re a woman yourself are women here for men? NO. The very same prejudices are what make people believe that animals are here for us. They were here LONG before us and they will be here LONG after us. They have thoughts and emotions just like humans and they feel pain to the same extent that we do. Maybe you should rethink your barbaric thought process.
